Gameweek 7 Roundup
Results, crowd predictions, upsets and who won the prize money
The roundup
Gameweek 7 was the most readable week of the season. 60% of predictions called the right result, up from 45% in Gameweek 6 and the best of the year so far, though only 6% landed the exact score. Seven of the ten results went the way the crowd's favourite pointed.
The one nobody saw coming was Leeds 1-1 Manchester United. 85% of players backed Leeds, and only one of the 13 who predicted it called the draw. Newcastle's 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa also beat the crowd: a draw was the most popular pick on 46%, and just three players went for the Villa win. Liverpool's 2-1 win at Brentford was the third, with 54% backing the home side, though three players did call the exact score.
Manchester City's 3-2 win over Ipswich made it seven wins from seven, and every one of the 13 players backed City, though not one called the score. They are now the only side in the division without a defeat or a draw. Everton and Brentford both lost their unbeaten records this week, Everton 2-0 at home to Chelsea and Brentford to Liverpool. 77% of players called the Chelsea win, even against a side that hadn't lost all season.
Brighton's 5-0 win over Crystal Palace was called correctly by 92% of the pool, and Arsenal's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest by 85%, with one player nailing the score. Brighton have now scored 23 goals in seven games, the most in the division, and sit third behind City and Arsenal. Bournemouth's 2-0 win over Sunderland and Tottenham's 3-1 win over Coventry were both called by a clear majority, at 69% and 64%, and Fulham's 1-0 win over Hull was the toughest of the home wins to call, with 46% of players getting it right.
Our own calls in the Gameweek 7 preview got 3 of the 10 results right, with no exact scores, against 60% for the crowd. That's a poorer week than Gameweek 6's 6 of 10, and ten games is a small sample. The right ones were Manchester City, Brighton and Arsenal. Three of the misses were draws we called that didn't happen (Everton v Chelsea, Bournemouth v Sunderland and Tottenham v Coventry), and on Leeds v Manchester United we shared the crowd's view that Leeds would win.
14 players made 131 predictions. Skin1234 won the gameweek with 32 points, including two exact scores, and took the £25 prize. cherryboy finished second on 31 points, one behind, for the £10, with eight correct results.
In Last Man Standing, round two went the way of everyone who made a pick. sjd, sideshowbob and Miracle1544 all took Manchester City, who beat Ipswich, so all three go through, and none of them can use City again. Rphillips25 had no pick in for the round and is out. The next round locks at 8PM on Friday 23 October.
